Higher National Diploma (HND) in Art and Design

The course will enable you to develop your design ability and technical graphic skills, allowing you to determine and focus the career path you wish to take. While we strongly advocate academic and theoretical research, the course's main emphasis is on the practitioner skills, which is delivered via a combination of practical, lectures and one-to-one tutorials.

You will be encouraged to create a portfolio and will be given the choice to specialise in a discipline of your choice, such as illustration, mobile or game design, branding.

Requirements

General

You must be at least sixteen (18) years of age
Admission decisions are based on academic achievements, the strength of an applicant's portfolio and a successful interview.

Qualifications

Three CAPE grades A - C which MUST include English and Math or
One A Level or equivalent, in an art and design subject
A design certificate from a recognised institution

Interviews
All prospective students will attend an interview where they should:

Be proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
Have a portfolio, which demonstrates that you have an understanding on how to apply design theory and can use creative software.

Additional Information

To get the best out of the programme, it is beneficial for you to have knowledge of the application of design theory and the ability to use creative software. Progression

As a graduate of the Higher National Diploma, will be able to entry the third year of an appropriate BA Honors programme or alternatively move directly into mid-level employment.

You will have the knowledge and skills needed to become involved in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Advertising, Product Design, etc.

Course Outline

During a cycle, you will be expected to successfully complete design projects covering fourtenn (14) units using hands-on exercises, tutorials and creative software.

Assessments
The aim of this programme is to help you develop the design and practical skills needed for a professional career in Graphic Design or design related field. Through practical developmental and the use of creative software, students will demonstrate their ability to conceptualise a vision.
